IMPRESSIONS
When we arrived at the museum it was a very different museum then I was expecting. In my past art classes we just went straight to the national gallery, but this time we hit two museums. The first was the Hirshhorn Museum which was where we were dropped off at. I have never been to this location so I was going in completely blind to this museum. I haven’t really delved in deep into contemporary art, just because I find that my style doesn’t have a lot of ideology or physiological grasp like other art styles do. This museum however, really helped to shift my perspective on how I view this type of artwork. Every piece has its own designated meaning and purpose and it’s really wild to see how the curators and artist work together to create such a unique experience. Thankfully the day we went was a very beautiful day. Seeing everyone walking around with their friends and family was very nice to see. It was really warm to so people had more smiles than frowns on their faces. it was weird in the first museum that the water fountain was on the bottom floor only though.
We spent about 2 hours at the first museum before going to the National Gallery. I will say that the Hirshhorn Museum had some really amazing artwork with a wide range of styles. I really enjoyed some of the Banksy artwork they had on display. I have always heard of the artist but never actually seen any of their work in person so that was really cool. I also really enjoyed the painting “Ringside Seats” by George Wesley Bellows. The lighting in the piece was really dynamic and I love the use of the complimentary colors between the two fighters. We arrived at the National Gallery around two o’clock and we had about another two hours to look around and take notes.
I’ve always enjoyed going to the Gallery and seeing the sculpture work. Seeing the marble sculpture in person is unlike any other experience. the amount of detail in the drapery in the marble and bronze sculptors are second to none. I spent most of my time in the bronze sculptor galleries because of the animal sculptors depicting more exotic creatures. The lions and alligator sculptors are among some of my favorite works in the whole museum. for the paintings I make sure to always visit the portraits of such rich and high class people. the way they painted with oil all those years ago was absolutely beautiful. In the middle of the trip we were allowed a hour and thirty minute lunch break and while everyone was getting food and doing their own thing, I decided to sit outside next to a tree in the mall area. I don’t really get many chances to just sit and observe and really y be present on my surroundings. It was a surprisingly very grounding experience. Taking the time to really stop and smell the roses was a very rewarding experience and I feel everyone should do it at some point even while looking at art even.
